Peter Askew
Born in Wallasey, Wirral, UK 1971 I began to practice the ancient martial art ninjitsu at the age of seven which incorporated hatha yoga and many other self healing practices. I began teaching martial arts at the age of 14 and have continued to develop my practice over the last thirty years. In 2004 I began practicing ashtanga yoga and have been practicing ever since. I realized the benefits of ashtanga yoga immediately and built up my practice till it became a moving meditation. Teaching alone is a practice and takes lots of self study and focus which allows you to explore the practice by doing it yourself developing knowledge that is free from corruption. As Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Clearly states - 1% Theory and 99% practice. We must remember that as a practitioner it is for us to have the experience and not for others to tell us how it should be. We are all different in our mind body organism but the same in our spirits. We all have our own afflictions from life and some are buried deep inside in our unconscious or sub conscious and only show themselves when we have a bad experience. Our yoga practice can help bring the things that are stopping us from moving on to the surface or our conscious thoughts allowing us to have the opportunity of seeing everything through a different lens. Healing may finally take place. Yoga is great!
I have had the pleasure of practicing and being taught by many yoga teachers from all over the world, the most memorable being David Swenson (www.ashtanga.net) and Gandhar Mandlik (www.yogapoint.com) teacher training courses. They are such an inspiration with their approach towards yoga and humanity. I have spent the last four years on teacher training courses learning many different yoga disciplines, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga (Patanjali's Eight Limbs) & Hatha Yoga (Pradipika). We have been running dynamic, ashtanga vinyasa and hatha yoga classes & yoga retreats in the UK since 2006. Peter is an RYT500 - Registered Yoga Teacher 500hrs with the UK Yoga Alliance (click here for listing) and teaches the morning ashtanga vinyasa yoga class, guided chakra meditations, chanting and pranayama and intruducing his core strength vinyasa practice.
